Get a taste of wild Tasmania as you swing high up into the sub-alpine atmosphere of kunanyi / Mt Wellington overlooking Hobart, and then cruise down the edge of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area to Whale Lookout.
You are now at the furthest point south that you can ride in Australia. The next point south is Antarctica, which incidentally is closer than the Northern-most point of Australia.

At Whale Lookout, turn off your machine, get your boots sandy, slow your mind for a moment and soak in nature’s wonder in this truly special place.
Tassie weather can be ‘four seasons in one day,’ so layer up. It was a fresh 4°C and there was snow on the ground on kunanyi / Mt Wellington when we rode there in October 2017!
There is about 20 km of dirt road to reach Whale Lookout – it’s generally flat and firm and usually has some muddy patches.
From Whale Lookout, walk a few metres along Fishers Point Track to a remote beach.
Give yourself enough time for the return leg, or better yet, stay a night in the beautiful Huon Valley.
The baby whale sculpture at Whale Lookout is an unexpected delight in this remote corner of the world.
